Good Morning Bela - Pt1

New work in progress. Thanks to my lovely Bela for modelling this one. She's such a natural.

Chimney Pots

You know how sometimes you just get that urge to sketch chimney pots?

Ganga's Offering - Complete

At last it's complete. Didn't think it would take this long - maybe I should address the life/art balance.

Anyway it's been great fun and a big learning curve. And thanks again to my great friend Troy for providing the original photograph.

Wasn't easy trying to get a photo of the final piece but the light wasn't right and the paint was still wet. Will have to get a better shot later for the portfolio.

Thanks to everyone for your support whilst I trundled along with this one.

Moleskine Masai

Thought that the photo version wasn't to clear on the detail so decided to upload a scanned version instead. Think I'll do this for all sketches in future.

Moleskin

After compromising on many a cheap sketchbook over the years I recently read about an artist that swears by the Moleskin.

So I bought one and wish I'd done so years ago. It's great. Nice weight in each page and the texture of the paper is great. It really holds the graphite and helps build up the darks.

Broke it in with this two hour sketch today.

Ganga's Offering - Pt8

Tonight the candles were lit and so I was able to concentrate on the darks and lights with a proper light reference. Think the picture makes more sense now.

Ganga's Offering - Pt7

Slow progress as the candles were a bit of a struggle. If I didn't get that organic feel I fear they might look like tin foil holders - which they're not. Anyway I hope I captured that feel.
