Ganga's Offering - Pt2

Here we are again but with a little more detail.

I've never painted onto such a loose underpainting before but I have been watching many (many many) YouTube videos and this seems to be the technique favoured by most of the classic realism painters. All loose to begin with and then push the paint into shape until it begins to resemble (hopefully) the intended result.

Ganga's Offering - Pt1

For those of you that follow my blog (sorry Facebook folks!) I've decided to do something extra and walk you through my new project. It's a really tough one and I will have to be really patient and not speed along too fast.

Anyway, I sketched out a picture (thanks Troy) in graphite onto my canvas (16" x 19") then gave it a quick wash with burnt umber. I then started sketching over my original sketch using a less diluted burnt umber.

Josie and Gracie - Oil on Canvas 16' x 20'

Approached this one with much enthusiasm but before long realised that the translation from photo to canvas wasn't quite what I was expecting. Therefore it sat on the easel right through Christmas. Only now at the end of January did I decide to give it a quick five minutes highlighting, called it a day and closed the project.

Don't think landscapes are my thing but it was a fun project. Hope you like it.

Bela's Hand

Graphite on Paper

Sitting in a freezing cold house waiting for a plumber to come and fix the heating so decided to do this sketch to warm my hands up a bit.

The Gatekeeper

Oil on Paper Sketch

I've been working on a painting of a beach scene but it's really not my thing and has been sitting unfinished for way too long. It's actually beginning to block my creativity so decided to oil paint over one of my sketches in my sketch book. It's no masterpiece, but it did give me a welcome break from the canvas in progress.

It's oil on paper. not a great combo but on retrospect I should probably have started with a little acrylic undercoat.
